Frequently Asked Questions & Field Guide

How deep should the gravel base and leveling sand be under patio pavers?

For foot-traffic patios and walkways, install 4 to 6 inches of compacted crusher-run gravel (#411 / QP) topped with exactly 1 inch of coarse C-33 screeded bedding sand. Never exceed 1.5 inches of bedding sand, or pavers will settle unevenly. For driveways, increase the compacted gravel base to 8–10 inches.

How many 4×8 brick pavers are in a square foot?

Each 4" × 8" brick paver covers 32 square inches, so it takes exactly 4.5 pavers per square foot (before adding 5–10% for cuts and waste).
